![]() Long after the 2008 Directory is published and delivered, your team of classmates on the Committee will be floating around here in cyberspace, quietly waiting for your updates and available to record whatever you want us or another listed classmate to know. You never know when someone in our (or another) Class is going to throw a party, hold an auction or event, make national news or, sadly, pass away. So keep your options open and stay connected with your class. If you want to know how to reach another classmate, one day, we'll try and "make it happen" for you. Our fledgling website is just a beginning. One day, we hope to incorporate email verification, photo uploading and other networking capabilities. We'll also try to serve as an alumni site where you can post class news and advertise yourself or your business, always with your privacy and the protection of your personal information as our first priority. One day we may even have a newsletter requiring you to "opt-in" in order to subscribe. And, because our other official class reunion website was opened and operated expressly for our 30th Class Reunion in July 2008, ours is likely to be the only authorized, online site available to, for and by the Class of 1978 of First Colonial High School, well into the future. Unlike other online directory sites, our two class sites are unique because they are owned and governed by members of your Class. A quick search will tell you that alumni reunions (and the related collection of data for directories), has become big bu$iness to a school of little "phishies," which initially appear as First Colonial High School affiliates or alumni. One such website, ranking high on Google's "First Colonial" search list is firstcolonialalumni.com, owned by Alumni Archives, a company in Maryland. Though they make the following disclaimer on their home page, "Like most alumni sites we are not affiliated with the school or its organizations," they did purchase the rights to the domain name and actually sell "FC Patriots" merchandise online; never mind the fact that the colors aren't even those of the "Patriots!" There will be only two, official Repositors of our Class Data: Adele Berny, Senior Class President & our 30th Reunion Queen, and Matt Hogendobler, Webmaster of fchs78.com. The data maintained for the class will be only as current as has been made available at any given time. It's our hope that the Data-Directory Committee, comprised of both interested class members and a support team trained in areas beneficial to our specific needs, will continue through the years. Among those we'll seek are printing and graphics experts, legal & financial advisers and IT-proficient individuals, covering a myriad of digital and internet tech arenas. If you'd like to help on the Committe, short- or long-term, please send us an email. We welcome all volunteers from the Class. Aside from the relatively important work we'll do, those interested who also reside in the Hampton Roads area may be able to attend expert sessions designed to train committee members in areas of global privacy, data storage, website design and email exchange. If you're not on the committee, please remember where to find us on the web. (It's an acronym for your high school and class year!)
